Google launches its first-ever pixel smartwatch
Google finally gets into the smartwatch game market with the $349 Wear OS device.
Google unveiled the Pixel Watch during its Made by Google event on Thursday. The device was first teased at Google’s developer conference in May, but the company used an event in New York City to provide more information about each new product.
Google’s smartwatch launch has marked a new chapter for Android wearables, as it becomes an active player in the smartwatch market.
Google Pixel Watch price
Google Pixel Watch’s price starts at $349 for the Bluetooth variant and $399 for the LTE variant. It is available to pre-order in select countries from October 6 and is expected to hit shelves on October 13th.
Google Pixel Watch specifications
It’s basically what the Apple Watch would look like if it had a circular display, a digital crown, and a side button. However, the Pixel Watch’s official sizes are significantly smaller than those of other premium smartwatches, such as the Apple ultra watch and Galaxy watch 5. The case is compact at 41mm and relatively thin at 12.3mm. It’s also lightweight for a stainless steel watch at 32g, minus the straps. The smaller size is good news for those with petite wrists.
Fitbit’s health tracking features will be integrated into the Pixel Watch, which Google purchased for approximately $2.1 billion.
Fitbit on the watch can track workouts, sleep quality, steps taken, and more. If you’ve previously used a Fitbit, it will sync with the app you already have on your phone. Moreover, A six-month Fitbit premium membership is also included with the Pixel Watch. The service provides access to over 200 workouts as well as information on how sleep and heart rate trends have changed over time.
But, like the Apple Watch, it has smartwatch features, too. It runs the company’s Wear OS software, which allows you to download apps from the Google Play Store. And it ties seamlessly into Google’s products such as Wallet, Gmail, Calendar, and Google Home. The Pixel Watch only works with Android phones.
In addition, Google says the Pixel Watch can last up to 24 hours on a single charge, which is six hours longer than the Apple Watch Series 8.
Google also unveiled Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones at the Made by Google launch event.
